Last week my grandson was born. The first of the next generation in our family. It feels like I have become my father — looking ahead not one but two generations.
Our culture is coming loose from many traditional moorings. Cut adrift, we’ve elected leaders who “hate good and love evil,” to quote Micah. But a new grandson pushes back, declaring hope like nothing else.
Everything is changing all the time, and therein lies the promise for a troubled world: new life and new possibilities are irrepressible. God is very good at creation, and in the face of powerful forces of un-creation, re-creation keeps happening. New life is unstoppable.
In the midst of the brokenness of our world, a new grandfather hopes with abandon: because this child is born.

Amen! Thanks for sharing. This reminds me of something I heard said once, that Jewish tradition teaches that every child born is a sign that God is not finished with the world yet. I’ve found great comfort in that ever since hearing it.
Congratulations on your first grandchild!

Powerful message for all generations to never give up and stand up for what is right and good. This child will be covered with all things good and right. Congratulations to two of my favorite people.
